“The flag should never be displayed with the union down, except as a signal of dire distress in instances of extreme danger to life or property.” 4 U.S. Code § 8
The good ol’ red, white, and blue; angry white men vote in their red or blue states and there you have it, the red, white and blue.
And unless we’re careful these angry crackers (yea, I said it) are gonna put in office a man who is LESS qualified to be president than a chimp…used for psychiatric drug testing (come to think of it very little separates Donald J. Trump from a chimp used for psychiatric drug testing.)
For the first time in my life I can see a very clear division between Democrats and Republicans. One is pure hyperbole, deceit and almost laughable ideas on economic stimulation and the other Republicans.
For the first time in my life we have a populace so viscerally engaged in politics. Unfortunately, it’s all self-serving negative hubris with the only real discernible interest of winning and not about “making America great again” (psst, it’s still great…albeit, less so.)
For the first time in my life the term “lessor of two evils”, related to politics, actually fits.
For the first time in my life the hidden, behind door antisemitism that we all tacitly accepted is poking it’s very ugly head out, along with a hatred for non-white’s that is slowly changing us from a New York State of Mind to a Jim Crow State of Hell. The legal lynching of young black people should send shock waves through the country but instead it generates a shrug, at best.
The gap between rich and poor is growing at staggering rates and the wealthy continue to subjugate the poor by providing none of the “trickle down” economics they claim will lift everyone up and calling them lazy and stupid. The real world example of “trickle down” economics is hurricane Katrina. You may recall that a rising tide does not lift everyone up.
Unemployment is down (where it went, no one can say for certain…it just went down.) The working poor is up. Hell, they’re thriving and even surging, but they’re too tired to be raging. Homeless rates are up. Kids graduate college 40-50k in debt, on average. A bachelor’s degree has the same weight of a high school diploma…just way more expensive. Minimum wage is more of a rage than a wage. The average annual income increase for most employees, lucky enough to get one, is about 3%…hardly enough to cover the average annual increase in health care and day-to-day living expenses…and these are in the blue states which are better off than the red states! (The Path to Prosperity is Blue, NYTimes)
I can’t offer up too many solutions other than we must keep trying to do better. Hell, can we do any worse (outside of the obvious…electing that silver spooned nit wit Donald J. Turnip)? We must. Not only because we want to, we have to. The numbers are on our side, not theirs. History tells us this.
But sadly, history tells us this is battle bullshit is old. This is an excerpt from Lorell Patterson on the “War Zone” Strikes in Decatur, Illinois (June 1995) (emphasis is mine):
I figured out a long time ago who my enemy was. The people who are my enemy are in some fancy house, wearing some fancy suit, and telling me that I don’t deserve to have anything. These corporate goons have the politicians and the money. But there’s one thing that they don’t have, but we do and that’s each other. And there are more of us than there are of them. When we learn to stand up together as one, we can stop this mess, and there’s no doubt about that in my mind.
So the next time that some of those people come up to you-none of them come up to me anymore, because they know who I am-and they start squawking about how they can’t win, I’d like you to say something to the effect of this: If you dare to struggle, you dare to win. If you dare not to struggle, you don’t deserve to win. And if you are one of those people who’s afraid of being arrested, going to jail and losing everything that you’ve worked so hard for-just go home. Because they’ll come for you last, and they’ll take every damn thing that you have and everything that your children and your grandchildren have.
Don’t think it doesn’t matter because it does.
Viva La Revolucion!
